The Intouchables...

My name is Alice,
And I have these obsessions...

Recently in english we have been looking at literature that has shaped us as a person, and to complement that we watched a movie called The Intouchables. I wasn't originally going to write about it here because it is for school (yes- this is how I am submitting my homework) but it was an amazing movie that deserves a watch.

The story is of a developing friendship between a quadriplegic, Philippe, who is very well off, and his newly appointed carer, Driss. It is based on a true story of Philippe Pozzo do Borgo and his French-Algerian caregiver, Abdel Sellou.
Abdel & Phillipe- who were the inspiration for the story
Driss & Phillipe from the movie

The class started the movie when I wasn't there so I missed a little bit of the beginning but it really didn't matter, I don't know why but I have no words for this movie. It really opened my eyes. If you speak french, this movie is perfect for you because it is in french with english subtitles. I am not normally attracted to movies where I have to read while I watch but I wasn't fussed because this movie was so engaging.

After thinking about it for a little while, it really dawned on me that there are people around the world that need that much help with their lives. About halfway through the movie, I don't know why it took me so long to realise this but,  Driss has to do everything for Philippe; dress him, bathe him and shave his beard (watch the movie, that is the best scene). I really struggle to imagine a life where I couldn't freely get up and out of bed in the morning, go to the bathroom, shower myself and make my own breakfast.

Don't worry though, this movie wasn't all tears and heartbreak. It was a beautiful movie with a happy and unexpected ending.

I know this wasn't much but I hope you venture out, find The Intouchables and watch it.
